I will also be making a second draft of my music video to better refine it. I also talk about my evaluation of the project.
Project Evaluation
For this project I decided to chose a song from one of my favourite game series called MachineGun Kiss from the Yakuza series. I started doing some research on my artist once I had chosen them, that being Takaya Kuroda.
To begin with I was very confidant when it came to presenting my song choice in my pitch and during the course of the project I thought it would be a walk in the park, but it was slightly more difficult than that. nonetheless I enjoyed creating this piece of work regardless at how many times I cringed looking back at the footage of myself in the Music Video.
The things that went well to begin with was choosing a song and making a presentation of it, I had spent the past two years with the idea of using one of Takaya's songs for my music Videos and I had a wide selection of his songs I could've used, I even went as far as remembering entire song lyrics with my original idea of doing my own cover of them, though that didn't go through well and I decided to backtrack to lip syncing.
One part I struggled with was not having a lot of freetime when I'm not at college due to my part time job taking up most of my time giving me little room to get stuff that i want to do out of college like recording, editing or updating my blog.
I believe that everything went well and went the way I had hoped it would, minus the small amount of time I had available outside of college.
For my Video once I had recorded it and began editing I first used the audio file containing the song and first began adding lyrics to my video, I also downloaded a font on dafont called Galvanis that i used for the english lyrics whilst using NSimSun for the Japanese lyrics in the video.
Once I had added the lyrics in I started one by one added video clips that I had recorded for my music video, I had 60 GB worth of footage so I had plenty of shots and angles that i could use for the video at my disposal. Most of the clips just used correctly timed video splicing along with some opacity fading for a few of the shots whilst also using a slowdown effect on a very select few of the clips to fit into the song and not seem too quick paced.
Once I finished this I exported the File that I had been editing in Adobe premier Pro and exported it as an MP4 files whilst using vbr 2 pass bitrate set at minimum and max at 15 mbps to get a good quality 1080p video to later upload to YouTube.
The video itself is superb, however not as impressive as my last project that I had worked on. But I did learn from this on how a Music Video is made and how much time and effort must be put into it.
My conclusion is that my work is of somewhat decent quality but I could've definitely done more with this, yet at the same time I have learnt a lot more about the production side of music videos.
As for the music video appealing to the target demographic. I believe that the target audience would find the music video to be of good quality with the location choices and the use of lyrics just like in the games, also the fact that there are many videos of people singing this song in karaoke bars on youtube. I also made sure to have a few camera angles similar to the original in-game performance, So people who've played the games will find a similarity in the Music Video.
